Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minster Danny Ayalon praised the US and European Union responses to Tel Aviv’s demands to prevent the Libyan aid ship, Hope, from reaching the shores of the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with Israel Radio, on Wednesday July 14, Ayalon said that calls by the US and EU to the ship to accept Israel’s diversion requests served to legitimize Israel’s policies.
The Israeli official stressed that the way in which Israel dealt with the Gaza-bound international aid flotilla in late May also “contributed to confirm the success of this policy” [toward Gaza].
Lieberman’s deputy also mentioned that Israel and Egypt share a common interest in preventing the arming of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.
