Change and Reform bloc say any agreement made with Israel by Abbas is "non-binding"

The Change and Reform bloc of parliamentarians, which represents Hamas in the Palestinian Legislative Council, is holding the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas responsible for any consequences resulting from agreements made between the PA and the government of Israel.

In a press statement made available to Quds Press on 15th August, the bloc said that President Abbas and his team do not have a mandate from the Palestinian people and do not express their views. Any agreement reached with Israel, said the statement, “will not be binding”. Disapproval was expressed about any decision paving the way to direct negotiations, because such a move should be tied to making progress in the indirect bilateral talks. No such progress has been made, the statement said.

The bloc called on the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah to “return to the people, stick with their cause and hold on to their rights and principles”. Hamas also urged the PA to reach a national, unified Palestinian strategy based on resistance and holding on to rights and fundamental principles.
