Civil society organisations stage demonstration outside Gaza UNWRA headquarters

Demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags and waving placards with slogans condemning the blockade of Gaza have staged protests outside the headquarters of UNWRA in Gaza demanding international intervention to provide protection for ships taking part in Freedom Flotilla II. The European fleet of ships is currently preparing to set sail toward Gaza's shores with the intention of effectively breaking the five year Israeli imposed siege on the Sector.

The demonstrations were well attended as Palestinians are filled with concern following Israel's announcement and threat that it would stand in the way of any vessel heading toward Gaza.
It is expected that Freedom Flotilla II will set off toward the Gaza Strip, which has been under siege for the past five consecutive years, within the next few days. Twelve European countries are expected to take part in the effort and the ships will be carrying dozens of European parliamentarians and high profiled political figures along with hundreds of international solidarity activists and significant numbers of media practitioners who will be reporting on events as they unfold.
