February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

A spokesman for Viva Palestina convoy 5 to Gaza has said that the Egyptian authorities have agreed to allow the aid convoy to enter the Gaza Strip. In an exclusive statement to the Palestinian Information Centre, Zahir Birawi confirmed that the convoy will leave the Syrian port of Latakia on Friday and sail to the Egyptian port of El-Arish. From there, the convoy will drive to the Gaza Strip via the land crossing at Rafah.

According to Dr. Mohammad Sawalha, who is accompanying the convoy, the Egyptian authorities have also announced that 10 people from among those travelling with Viva Palestina to Gaza will be prevented from entering the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Information Centre correspondent with the convoy, this development comes at the same time that Egyptian security officers have removed six Indonesian supporters of Palestine from El-Arish to Cairo.
