February 20, 2014 at 3:32 pm

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Nabil El Arabi, met with Dr Mahmoud Al Zahar and Khalil El Hayyah from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Cairo on Tuesday. They explored ways to accelerate Palestinian national reconciliation efforts and end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip caused by Israel’s blockade of the territory.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said El Arabi emphasized that Egypt gives priority to the reconciliation efforts and ending the division as soon as possible; in a manner that serves the interests of the Palestinian people and the Palestine cause in its entirety.

The Egyptian-Hamas meeting also addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The Minister said Cairo is conducting a review of the Rafah border crossing, and it will take all necessary actions to further ease the suffering of Gaza’s one and a half million inhabitants.
