Ehud Barak calls for maintaining strong ties with America

Israel’s Defence Minister has called on the rest of the Israeli government to maintain strong ties with the US Administration. This is especially important, said Ehud Barak, due to the current tension and popular uprisings across the Arab world.

In statements that were published in Israeli media outlets, Barak said that the region is currently witnessing “a lot of shocks that will definitely affect future conditions”. He mentioned that such a volatile situation requires Israel to be in a state of alert and readiness for any eventuality. At the same time, he added, it is important to maintain its special relations with the US and continue to work with its ally toward reaching peace agreements with its neighbours.
