February 20, 2014 at 3:34 pm

A high-ranking European parliamentary and political delegation has visited the protest tent of the Jerusalemite parliamentarians threatened with deportation. The solidarity visit took place during a trip to Jordan and the occupied West Bank organised by the Council for Palestinian-European Relations. The delegation, headed by Britain’s Lord Hugh Dykes, spent time at the tent in the grounds of the International Red Cross in Jerusalem.

CPER director Arafat Mady said that the delegation included British and Scottish Members of Parliament; members of the European Parliament from Germany and Luxembourg; and a Belgian senator. The delegation is to hold a series of meetings with Palestinian Authority officials and members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Mr Mady added that the delegation will meet the PLC Speaker, Aziz Doweik, in Hebron as well as Eissa Qreiqa’, the PA Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs. Representatives of the families of Palestinian detainees held by Israel will discuss action to take in the light of the ongoing hunger strike.

The delegation will also meet with representatives of the Arab Follow-Up Committee in 1948 Palestine (Israel) to discuss “the Israeli Occupation’s violations” against the Arab citizens of Israel. A meeting is also being arranged with the UN Humanitarian Coordinator’s Office.

Before leaving Jordan for the occupied West Bank, the delegation met Jordan’s Prime Minister. Mr Maarouf Al Bakheit gave details of the efforts being exerted by Jordan in support of the Palestinian people.
