Germany’s Development Minister, Dirk Niebel, today visited the Gaza Strip. He held a press conference at the beginning of his tour during which he stressed the need to end the siege of the territory; noting that there would be no economic development before the blockade is lifted.

Mr Niebel visited the Tel Al Hawa district, west of Gaza city where the German government is financing and supervising the construction of a water treatment plant to the tune of $20 million.

The German official later pledged a further $50 million for a sewage plant east of Al Burayj in the central part of the Strip. He also announced a $3 million donation to UNRWA for the construction of three schools.
