The government of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh launched a campaign yesterday to plant a million olive trees in the Gaza Strip. He paid tribute to the steadfastness of the farmers in the territory, despite the lack of resources and the siege.
Several deputies in the Legislative Council and government ministers attended the ceremony which included the picking of olives and dates. Agriculture Minister Mohammed al-Agha and Minister of Social Affairs Ahmad Kurd were among those present, along with dozens of farmers.
Haniyeh visited several olive groves and dates farms and participated in the process of picking before visiting a number of olive presses the central Gaza Strip.
