Hamas government seeks to rebuild Gaza

The Ministry of Public Works in Gaza has held an exhibition to promote the construction industry in the beleaguered territory. Held in conjunction with the Palestinian Contractors Union the event was part of the international forum for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The Prime Minister of the Palestinian government in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, said the exhibition was an example of the skills and great achievements of the Palestinian people, despite the ongoing illegal siege imposed by Israel.

The exhibition opened on Sunday (16 January) and will last for two days. Local Palestinian companies taking part in the exhibition said that it gave them the chance to highlight Palestinian products and workmanship. The Contractors Union chose 22 companies out of a possible 500 local industrial plants and factories to take part. Those showcasing their products include companies which specialise in building materials, paints and tiles, cork and plastic, building plant, general trading and contracting, aluminium, insurance and investment.

The Hamas-led government will be supporting the rebuilding project and hopes that this will boost the quality of life and meet the needs of local Palestinians.
