Human rights organization condemns arrest of MP

February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

The Centre for Palestinian Rights has condemned the Ramallah authority security forces for arresting MP Abdur Rahman Zaydan, blockading the office of the Change and Reform bloc in Ramallah, and detention of a number of employees from the office.

In a written statement, the human rights organization said that: “These actions are a flagrant violation of the Palestinian basic law which guarantees the right of every citizen to freedom of opinion and political affiliation, as stated in Article 26 of the Palestinian basic law. It is also a shameful attack on constitutional rights and political and parliamentary immunity granted to MPs by the citizens during the recent legislative elections. “

The Centre called upon the officials in the occupied West Bank “to immediately cease such illegal actions, which only serve the occupation and its supporters, and to release all political detainees.”
