The Secretary General of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has made contact with the British government on several levels regarding the release of the leader of the Islamic Movement inside Israel, Sheikh Raed Salah.
Well informed sources within the Organisation have said that Oglu has been in contact with British officials with a view to securing the release of Sheikh Raed Salah and allowing him to continue his tour of engagements in the country. The source added that the organisation would be continuing its endeavours in this regard during a meeting expected to take place with a British official shortly.
The Organisation began its activities toward securing the release of the Israeli Islamic leader following Sheikh Salah’s arrest on 28.07 under security pretexts. The Sheikh was in the British capital to give a series of talks which included a speech in the House of Commons and a lecture at the University of Leicester.
