Israel claims damaged relations with Turkey affects common interests and hinders peace

Israeli political sources have warned that any reduction in the level of diplomatic relations with Turkey will harm the peace process in the region and the interests of both countries. According to Hebrew Radio, the sources claimed, “Turkey is looking for a pretext for reducing the level of relations with Israel leading to an eventual complete break.”

A Turkish government report announced on 16 June sets out Turkey’s approach towards developing a “road map” setting out future links with Israel following the attack on the Freedom Flotilla at the end of last month. The report also said that Turkey will not send a new ambassador to the Jewish state unless the UN establishes an international inquiry to look into the attack on the aid convoy, during which Israeli commandos killed nine civilians.
