Israel issues demolition orders for two mosques in the West Bank

On Tuesday (23.08.2010), the Israeli army issued demolition orders for two newly built mosques in the West Bank. The first mosque is located in the village Bawarin near Nablus in the northern West Bank while the other is located near the al-Jalzoun Camp in Ramallah in the central West Bank.

According to the Israeli daily, Haaretz, the orders were issued on a number of pretexts; “the two mosques are built within the area known as ‘Area C’ and as such are in violation of the law. Despite the fact that building decisions and permits in these areas must be obtained from the Israeli Civil Administration as the areas do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority, neither mosque obtained a building permit.”
