A leading German neurosurgeon has performed several groundbreaking operations in Gaza. Professor Abdullah Nabhan, who is of Palestinian origin, is the director of Spinal Surgery at Hamburg University Hospital and performed the operations in Gaza’s European Hospital. As well as the operations for a cartilage transplant, narrowing the spine, removing a spinal tumour and spinal stenosis, Prof. Nabhan carried out diagnoses on dozens of other patients who have been operated on overseas and are now suffering medical problems.

Prof. Nabhan praised the skills of the Gazan physicians who assisted him during the operations, which went well, despite the lack of equipment and resources.

The Director of the European Hospital, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hajj, spoke of the importance of the contributions that can be made by skilled Palestinian physicians who are based abroad and come to Gaza to offer their services to those who need them. Dr. Al-Hajj praised the performance of his German-Palestinian colleague in treating very complex problems in the neck and spine. He added that the Health Ministry exerts a great deal of effort to provide such talented doctors in cooperation with international organizations and donor organisations.
