Meshaal offers Abbas his condolences over the death of Ata Abbas

The head of Hamas' political bureau, Khaled Meshaal, made a phone call to Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Wednesday (05.01.20111) to offer his condolences over the death of Abbas' brother, Ata Abbas.

Accompanied yesterday by Muhammad Nazal, who is also a member Hamas's political bureau, Meshaal paid a visit to Ata Abbas's Damascus home to offer condolences. Two members of Fatah's Central Committee – Jibril Al Rajoub and Mohamed Ashtiyah, who were also in Damascus to pay their respects, were received by Meshaal at his office in the Syrian capital.

Condolences were also offered by the Palestinian Prime Minister in Gaza, Ismail Hannieyeh and Hamas' political bureau member Mahmoud Al-Zahar.

Ata Reda Shehada Azzas, the elder brother of Mahmoud Abbas, died on Monday in Damascus.
