Most Israelis think Netanyahu is not committed to the peace process

According to an Israeli newspaper report, more than half of Israel’s citizens doubt the sincerity of their prime minister’s intention to make peace with the Palestinian Authority. A poll published in Yedioth Ahronoth claims that 56% of Israelis believe that Benjamin Netanyahu was pressured by the US into entering the latest negotiations and that he “does not want” to reach a bilateral agreement with the Palestinians. Only 39% of the respondents believe that Mr. Netanyahu is committed to the peace process and an Israeli-Palestinian agreement.

While an even bigger majority of Israelis, 70%, think that the Palestinian Authority has also agreed to engage in direct talks in response to US pressure, around the same number have no hopes of the talks being successful. However, 25% think that the PA is genuine about wanting to make progress and the same number are confident that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can be brought to an end peacefully.
