Negotiations with the Palestinians "won't resume in the near future"

February 20, 2014 at 3:33 pm

Reports from Israel suggest that negotiations between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority are unlikely to resume in the near future. Leaked documents claim that there have been no positive developments in the peace process, which is likely to remain on hold.

According to the information revealed in the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the stalemate is likely to remain as long as PA President Mahmoud Abbas is pushing for UN recognition of an independent State of Palestinian. US officials are quoted confirming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be making any new initiatives in this respect.

The peace process has been at a standstill for the past eight months, following Israeli refusals to halt illegal settlement activity on occupied Palestinian land.
