OIC calls for protection for the Palestinians

February 20, 2014 at 3:32 pm

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has condemned in the strongest terms Israel’s “atrocious” military aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip which has killed and wounded dozens of civilians. Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said, “This horrible crime constitutes a serious escalation of hostilities and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions.”

In a statement published on the OIC’s website, Prof. Ihsanoglu said that he holds Israel responsible for the repercussions of this military escalation and the heinous crimes committed by the Zionist state against unarmed civilians. Combined with Israel’s ongoing illegal settlement construction, the Judaisation of Jerusalem, land confiscation and house demolition in the West Bank and the Holy City, this aggression against Gaza will, he added, lead inevitably to more tension and instability in the region.

On behalf of the OIC, the Secretary General called on all international bodies to intervene in order to protect the Palestinian people, stop Israel’s aggression and bring those responsible for committing such crimes to justice.
