February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

It has been confirmed by Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) member Samira Halayka that the Palestinian Authority arrested her husband Mohamed Zeitoun on September 14 in the Al-Sheyoukh district of Hebron, in the south of the West Bank. Ms. Halayka released a written statement claiming that the PA’s security forces issued a summons to her husband to meet the local head of the Preventive Security Service (PSS). Two hours after her husband was arrested, she added, the PSS called to let her know that he had been transferred to the PSS building in Hebron. Later in the evening, Mr. Zeitoun was taken to Zahriya Prison near the city.

Ms. Halayka said that she holds the PSS responsible for any human rights violations to which her husband may be subjected, and pointed out that he was still recovering from medical problems at the time of his arrest.
