Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip held a vigil in front of the office of the United Nations yesterday in support of the detained Al-Jazeera correspondent Samer Allawi.
Allawi, 45, was detained by the Israeli occupation authorities about one month ago while he was crossing into Jordan following a vacation with his family in ‘Sibsistiyeh’ village near Nablus.
The director of Al-Jazeera’s office in Gaza said that Israel have not produced any clear charge against Allawi. In the absence of any legal evidence, his detention coincides with a heightened campaign by Israel against the Qatari TV network, Al-Jazeera.
Several human rights organizations also participated in the solidarity vigil, urging international intervention to end Israeli hostility against journalists.
