Hundreds of Palestinians led by factional leaders and Legislative Council members gathered spontaneously in the Square of the Unknown Soldier in Gaza City to celebrate the signing of the Palestinian national reconciliation agreement. Participants chanted slogans of unity, called for the implementation and preservation of the agreement and hoped that Palestinians would never again return to the abhorrent state of national division.

Supporters of the two main factions, Fatah and Hamas, raised their banners along with the Palestinian flag to hail the agreement, while leaders from the two movements stood side by side in a moving scene. Sweets were distributed to the echoes of national songs and fireworks.

On Wednesday, prisoners of the Nafha desert prison welcomed the signing of the agreement. In a letter relayed by the Centre for the Defence of Palestinian Prisoners, the prisoners said that the continued state of division only served the occupation. They expressed their happiness on the occasion of imminent Palestinian national consensus.
