The head of Fatah’s dialogue delegation and member of the movement’s Central Committee has expressed his optimism about the successful implementation of the recent reconciliation agreement. Azzam Al-Ahmad said that a lot has been achieved with regard to calming the atmosphere in preparation for terms of the agreement to slot into place and the restoration of normal life in Gaza.

According to an official Palestinian media source, Mr Al-Ahmad said, “We agreed on an end to travel bans, the release of political detainees, and other issues to strengthen relations between the factions”. He was speaking before a visit to Moscow where he will discuss means for supporting the reconciliation.

Al-Ahmad reiterated that the transitional government will comprise people of various professional backgrounds. He noted that the Fatah and Hamas names mentioned in Cairo a few days ago are not final, and that the issue of the cabinet and its head will be finalised inside Palestine following consultation with President Mahmoud Abbas, the sponsor of the dialogue, and other national and popular factions and entities.
