Recreational counselling for female prisoners freed from Israeli prisons

Yesterday, the Council for Educational Counselling in the West Bank sponsored a day of recreation for former female inmates of prisons run by the Israeli occupation as a form of counselling to help ease the psychological traumas they suffered.

The Centre played host to a number of freed prisoners and their families at the 300 year old archaeological heritage site of ‘Khalil Palace’ in the northern West Bank village of Jama’een. Among the various activities and workshops at which the women could spend the day included Dabka [folk dance], art, handicrafts and drama.

The day began with a detailed introduction to the historic site before the women embarked on a guided tour through the palace’s corridors provided by project manager, Farah Darwaza.

This is not the first initiative of its kind; other similar projects having been established to help former inmates and their families deal with some of the psychological scars inflicted after years of imprisonment and misery in Israeli prisons.
