Sit-in protests in solidarity with Palestinian detainees of Israeli prisons

On Sunday (19.09.2010), country wide sit-in protests were organised under the auspices of the Palestinian Prisoners Forum, to demonstrate against repressive Israeli practices against Palestinian detainees in prisons run by the occupation. Protests were held outside the Red Cross headquarters in districts across the country; in both “the cities of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip” and were in particular a response to the recent surge in repressive measures carried out in Shata Prison.

During the protest, families of detainees stated that the prisoners themselves had declared they would begin an open-ended hunger strike next Saturday (25.09.2010) in protest against these cruel measures which they are subjected to.

This vicious campaign against Palestinian detainees in prisons run by the Israeli occupation coincides with the launch of direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians Authority.
