Change and Reform bloc call for resistance against Israel's "transfer" policy

February 27, 2014 at 10:58 am

The Change and Reform bloc of parliamentarians has called for Palestinians to struggle against Israel’s decision to expel tens of thousands from the West Bank. It proposes to challenge the decision through a unified resistance movement across the West Bank, calling for a halt to all security coordination and asking the general public to stand by those who are expelled.

In a press release, the bloc said, “Stripping the West Bank of resistance encouraged the Zionist enemy to empty the occupied territory of its population.” It stressed that Israel’s decision was invalid in international law and that the Zionist state’s policy would not weaken the will of the Palestinians. It did, however, call the potential transfer of people with no citizenship rights “one of the worst disasters for decades” to hit the people of Palestine.

The parliamentarians also warned of the severe consequences likely if the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority in Ramallah compromised, as it has done previously, by relegating the rights of Palestinians to second place behind Israeli security concerns. The statement claimed that this decision is a slap in the face for all who rely on negotiations and peaceful settlement, and represented a poor harvest on cooperation, particularly with regards to security, between the PA and the Israeli occupation forces.

The parliamentary bloc stressed the belief that Israel’s move is a step toward the expulsion of the Palestinian population of the West Bank in favour of illegal settlers and the further expansion of their colonial settlements.
