Gaza Speaks

As the 1st anniversary of Israel’s brutal assault and invasion of Gaza approaches, a new website has been launched to remind the world that Gaza is still under siege. The brainchild of Barrister Mary Nazzal-Batayneh, www.gazaspeaks.com is dedicated to the courageous people of Gaza.

“We want the site to serve as a resource offering short video clips, photos, articles and event information related to Israel’s war against the civilian population in Gaza,” said Ms. Nazzal-Batayneh. “It’s sad that the world has to be reminded of the crimes committed 12 months ago, but it’s necessary, so we hope that Gaza Speaks will do the job.”

A report published recently, Failing Gaza: No rebuilding, no recovery, no more excuses by a group of 16 humanitarian and human rights agencies describes Gaza as a “shattered society” a year after Israel’s assault. An unprecedented situation has seen the victims being held in the grip of an illegal blockade that has prevented them from being able to rebuild their homes, schools, hospitals and infrastructure.

“The people of Gaza are living a tragedy, and it’s happening before our eyes,” added Mary Nazzal-Batayneh. “The primary victims are women and children. At this time of year, when Christians remember the birth of Jesus, a time of peace and goodwill to all, the international community should be ashamed of what it is allowing to happen to the Palestinians in Gaza.”
