Israeli MP demands an "emergency government" to intensify settlement activity

February 27, 2014 at 11:22 am

An extreme right-wing Israeli MP has called for the formation of what he described as “an emergency government” to focus on the continuation of settlement projects in occupied Jerusalem. The call comes following the exposure of American demands to halt settlement building in Palestinian neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem.

According to Israeli media sources, Zevulun Orlev, head of the extremist coalition “Jewish Home” in the Israeli parliament, made his call after “the intense and unfair pressure that Barack Obama, the US President, is putting on Israel”.

Other Israeli sources have claimed that President Obama has sought a pledge from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that settlement construction will be discontinued for a period beyond the agreed ten months and nothing will be built in East Jerusalem.
