The National Islamic Conference in Beirut has called on the upcoming Arab summit – scheduled for this weekend in the Libyan capital, Tripoli – to withdraw the Arab peace initiative in view of Israel ‘s escalation against the Palestinian people.

In a statement obtained by Quds Press on Wednesday, March 24th, the conference demanded that the Arab states halt all steps toward the normalization of relations with Israel . It also called upon the Arab states to provide financial, political, and moral support to the Palestinian resistance and to revive the Joint Defense Treaty. The statement also stressed the need to differentiate between terrorism and the right to military resistance.

In addition, the conference urged for an Egyptian-Arab decision to immediately break the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip by opening the Rafah border crossing and halting construction of the steel wall being built by the Egyptian authorities along its border with the Gaza Strip.
