Netanyahu set to announce new settlement building plans following his return from Washington

February 27, 2014 at 11:22 am

Israel’s Cabinet Secretary, Zvi Hauser, has confirmed that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will announce new settlement construction plans on his return from Washington. The new settlements are planned for different parts of Jerusalem and the West Bank along the same lines as the recently announced construction at the Ramat Shlomo settlement in Jerusalem.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, March 23, Hauser said, “The issue is specifically related to the timing of announcements on building plans, as several changes and delays to announcements of plans like this one which coincides with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to the United States.”

Hauser stressed that “there is no change in Israel ‘s building policy in Jerusalem , but Israel does not intend to enter needless confrontations, and it does not want to announce new building projects [during Netanyahu’s visit to Washington].”

The Israeli official’s statements come on the heels of Netanyahu’s announcement in the US of his government’s intention to continue settlement building in Jerusalem . “Jerusalem is not a settlement. It is our capital” he said.
