Israeli Occupation Forces opened fire yesterday on dozens of Palestinian and international activists as they staged a protest march against the security belt near the border town of New Abasan, east of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip.

The march was organized by the Popular Campaign to address concerns arising from the construction of the security belt. According to the town’s campaign coordinator, Emad Asfour, the march passed only a few hundred metres from a military post manned by a large number of Israeli soldiers.

Participants raised Palestinian flags and shouted slogans through loudspeakers denouncing the Israeli security belt. Mohammed Abu Cool, one of the organizers gave a solidarity speech in which he called on the resistance factions to remove the belt and expel the occupier.

He added; “The whole world should take action to stop the Israeli aggression against our people in general and lift the siege on Gaza in particular.” At present the security belt takes away 20 per cent of Palestinian agricultural land, and prevents Palestinian citizens from cultivating their lands.
