Hamas: still too early to speak of specific results on prisoner deal

February 28, 2014 at 12:23 am

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, expressed its hopes that its indirect prisoner exchange negotiations with Israel, via Egyptian and German mediation, achieve the desired results, but it warned against the media frenzy about the near completion of the deal, and considered this to be based on Israeli rumors aimed at pressuring and influencing the negotiations.

In a press release – a copy of which was sent by Hamas to Al-Quds Press – Hamas asserts that it is continuing to exert efforts, through its delegated officials to overcome the obstacles placed by the Israeli enemy on the road to the completion of the deal. Hamas also said that it hopes to reach a deal that will honor the Palestinian people as soon as possible. It added that it is too early to talk about specific results or a completion of the deal.

Hamas considered the spread of the idea that the deal is close to be reached as an Israeli attempt to determine the outcome of the negotiations. “The uproar raised in the media that the prisoner swap deal is near completion is no more than Israeli rumors aimed at impacting on the feelings of our imprisoned sons and their families, and at pressuring and influencing the indirect negotiation process conducted through German mediation.”
