Palestinians salvage from wartorn Gaza

February 28, 2014 at 12:23 am

According to local and international estimates, thousands of Palestinians in Gaza remain displaced after the Israeli attack there. A more than two-year-long blockade is preventing building supplies from entering the territory and impeding internationally-pledged reconstruction efforts from commencing.

The international Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued in March a lengthy report on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. This report described the conditions six months after Operation Cast Lead. The objective of the report was to call on Israel and others to take all possible measures to open the crossing points so that the population of Gaza would stop paying the price.

As can be seen from these pictures exclusively taken for MEMO, in Ezzbet Abed Rabbo, in the Northern Gaza strip town of Jabalia, Palestinians are obliged to reuse destroyed materials in the buildings to build temporary shelter as Gaza Strip remains under a strict Israeli blockade since 2007. Unless key goods are allowed in and Israel ends its blockade reconstructing Gaza will not happen and donations will prove to be futile.
