Al-Hariri accuses Syria's Al-Assad again of assassinating his father

March 8, 2014 at 3:53 pm

Former head of Lebanese government Saad Al-Hariri reiterated his accusation that Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad had ordered the assassination of his father Rafik al-Hariri in Beirut in 2005.

“It is the first time the court sets limits to escaping from publishment. I felt that this is the end of political assassinations in Lebanon, and this is the real purpose of democracy,” Al-Hariri said in an interview with the French channel Europe 1 where he discussed the international tribunal related to Lebanon which started with the prosecution of 5 absentee defendants affiliated to Hezbollah.

“The five defendants are members of Hezbollah, and everyone knows who gave orders: Bashar Al-Assad,” Al-Hariri added.

Al-Hariri, who has been living outside Lebanon for three years, asserted that he will return in September with the date of elections. “I will return to become one day the head of government,” he mentioned.

In 2010, Al-Hariri admitted a rushed accusation of Damascus after he met with Bashar Al-Assad. He said at the time, “we should always take into account the interests of our two nations and their mutual relations. At one point, we committed a mistake and accused Syria of assasinating the martyr president. This accusation was political.”
