Al-Jazeera launches Turkish channel after success in Egypt

Qatar’s Al-Jazeera Media Network has confirmed that it has launched a new channel specialising in Turkish affairs. Called Al-Jazeera Turkey, it will follow the successful model of the station’s designated Egyptian channel.


The news was announced at a ceremony in Istanbul attended by the Acting Director General of Al-Jazeera Network, Mustafa Sawak, as well as a number of his co-directors and figures from the media and politics in Turkey.

Al-Jazeera confirmed that work is in progress to get the new studios ready for the first broadcast from Turkey. The channel will be the newest member of the network, joining sister Al-Jazeera channels broadcasting in Arabic, English and Balkan languages.
