Egyptian political scientist: coup in trouble following sham referendum

March 10, 2014 at 1:27 pm

Egyptian professor of Political Science and International Relations at Cairo University Dr Nadia Mostafa said in an interview with Aljazeera channel that the pro-constitution campaign revealed, more than ever, the contradictions within the coup camp, including Mubarak remnants, the former January 25 supporters, the “couch party”, and the military “worshippers”.

Dr Mostafa cited a number of indicators of the “dilemma” faced by the pro-coup forces after their relentless “yes” campaign: “The crisis of the apathy of young people towards the referendum; militarization of the Constitution and the fragmentation of state institutions; the farce of the one-sided pro-constitution mobilization; the so-called mandate to nominate Sisi; failures to stop terrorism in Sinai; the flow of international reports on violations of freedoms and human rights; the emerging voices among coup apologists rejecting the distortion of January 25 revolution and its icons; and growing signs of reconciliation among revolutionary youth on the occasion of the third anniversary of this revolution.”
