Ex-Dubai police chief calls for Al-Jazeera to be shut down

March 15, 2014 at 2:01 pm

The former Chief of Police in Dubai has called for Al-Jazeera TV Network to be shut down. It is, claimed Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, a “threat to all regimes in the Gulf, including Qatar”. Tamim used his twitter account to make his allegations.

Describing the television station as the “channel of the mindless”, the ex-police officer said that Al-Jazeera “poses the gravest threat to national security in the Gulf”. He was critical of the station’s claim to promote democracy. “It should look at its own country first,” he said. “Does Qatar want to overthrow the Gulf regimes, including its own?”

Al-Jazeera is owned by the Qatari royal family.
