April 5, 2014 at 3:46 pm

Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika warned on Tuesday against attempts to destabilise the army unity. The President was referring to remarks by the ruling party’s secretary general Amar Saadani who called for the resignation of military intelligence chief General Mohamed Mediene.

Bouteflika said in a message of condolences to the families of the military plane crash victims: “No one has the right, whatever his position, to attack the People’s National Army or other state institutions.

“We are accustomed to excesses from certain circles at the approach of elections. This time, the fury has taken a magnitude that our country has never known since independence as it attempts to undermine the unity of the People’s National Army, the country’s stability and its image in the international community.”
