Netanyahu turns to Latin America to overcome boycott

April 5, 2014 at 3:23 pm

Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Monday that in the coming days Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be visiting Columbia, Mexico and other Latin American countries to develop better relations with them.

According to the report, the goal of this sudden visit is to develop new markets for the Israeli economy and to make new political alliances in response to the increasing European boycott of Israeli goods produced in the settlements – a boycott aimed to pressure Israel to ensure the success of the current negotiations with the Palestinians.

Channel 2 noted that Israel will not stand still and watch the European boycott unfold, but instead it will work on developing relations with new allies around the world. One example of this strategy is the effort to join the Pacific countries of Latin America, including Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Peru, where large international companies are based.

The channel also reported that Israeli interest groups have launched an international campaign to promote Israeli goods and products that have been boycotted by European countries, promoting these goods directly to Jews in Europe and in the other countries, as well as to those who want to purchase them online at very low prices.

The campaign aims to mitigate the economic losses arising from the European boycott. It will be marketed online with the start of the Purim holiday in March. The goods’ prices and their shipping cost will be as low as $59.
