Urgent and immediate action should be taken to protect the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy places, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, an Arabic group in the UN, UN Security council and Quartet said.

In a letter by the group’s head, it called for the UN Secretary General, head of the UN Security Council and the head of the UN General Assembly to put pressure on Israel to respect the resolutions of the international community and international law, as well as the terms of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The group strongly condemned the Israeli “extremist and systematic violations” against Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour said that this joint Arabic movement came in the framework of the Palestinian, Arabic and Islamic efforts to face the Israeli aggressions against Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), headed by the Republic of Guinea, discussed the issue of defending Jerusalem. The permanent agent of the organisation in the US sent letters to the UN Secretary General and the head of the UNSC.

At the end of the discussions, the ambassadors held a joint press conference which was attended by heads of the Arabic group in the UNSC, Guinean ambassador, the head of the OIC, Egyptian ambassador, head of Islamic Summit, Iran’s ambassador, head of Non-Aligned Movement’s cooperation bureau, and the Indonesian ambassador, the deputy of the Palestine Committee.

They announced that the heads of these bodies are to meet with the UN Secretary General and the head of the UN General Assembly in the coming days to assert on the necessity of the international community to bear the responsibility over preventing Israeli violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque.
