Egypt's Anti-Coup Alliance: Al-Sisi's candidacy a disservice to Egypt

The Egyptian Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy Alliance said Wednesday that the Speech of Defense Minister Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi was “deceptive”, and that his candidacy for presidential elections would be a “disservice to Egypt”.

On Tuesday, during a speech at the Military Academy, the Egyptian Minister of Defense, Abdelfattah Al-Sisi hinted at his potential candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections, saying he could not turn his back on the “majority” who want him to run for office.

“Al-Sisi continues his deception, and is pushing the nation towards destruction for the sake of his personal interests,” the Alliance said in a press release.

The Alliance added that Egyptians will not accept Al-Sisi as a president, and that he would face the same destiny as dictators Hosni Mubarak and Tunisia’s Bin Ali.

Moreover, the Alliance pointed out that the speech of the Defense Minister is yet another evidence that “July 3 was a coup aiming at usurping power, rather than a reaction to popular will.”
