Hamas accuses Israel of breaching truce

April 9, 2014 at 9:41 am

Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the truce agreement concluded with the movement in November 2012 by bombarding and killing the Palestinians in Gaza Strip and denying essential material to access the enclave.

The Hamas-led government’s spokesperson in Gaza, Ihab al-Ghussein, said that his government had contacted the Egyptian mediator and the European Union to inform them of the Israeli violations of the truce agreement. “The European Union and other international organizations have to be objective and balanced when addressing this issue because Israel is the one who kills and bombards”. He urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop its violations against the Palestinians.

Ghussein warned that if Israel continues its violations, the truce agreement will be void. He said that the Palestinian factions in Gaza believe the truce has temporary benefits until they are ready for the next battle.

“Israel is trying to impose a new policy in Gaza with the constant bombardment. Israel did not abide by the terms of the truce agreement. It did not open the crossings or lift the siege,” he said.

Ghussein stressed that Hamas will not allow Israel to impose a new policy in Gaza and that it is assessing the situation and the appropriate reaction. “We are following up with the Egyptian mediator on Israeli violations,” he said.
