Israel uses live bullets to disperse protesters in Gaza

April 9, 2014 at 10:05 am

Israeli occupation forces fired live bullets towards peaceful Palestinian protesters as they approached the security fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel on Monday.

Israeli radio said: “In two separate incidents, Israeli army fired bullets towards two Palestinian groups attempting to approach the security fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel.” They did not specify the number of bullets fired.

No injuries were reported by Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip. Israeli radio stations did not report injuries either.

In a statement, the Israeli occupation army said it would not use self-control if anyone approached the security fence.

A group of Palestinian youth has recently activated popular resistance in the Gaza Strip. From time to time, they take to the streets near the borders with Israel and sit up one or two hour protests. Israeli forces fire live, plastic or gas bullets towards them.

On Friday, a group of protesters approached the security fence with Israel at the point in eastern Jabalia, in the north of the Strip. Israeli forces fired plastic bullets at them and wounded 17. All of them sustained light to moderate injuries.

Palestinian resistance and Israel reached a truce that ended an eight day massive war against Gaza in November 2012. About 160 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed in the war. The truce, which ended that war, was brokered by Egypt.
