Libya releases detained Egyptian ship

April 9, 2014 at 10:33 am

The Libyan authorities released on Tuesday an Egyptian merchant ship after seizing it for violating Libya’s territorial waters, the official spokesperson for the Libyan Navy Forces, Colonel Ayoub Qassim, told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

The Egyptian Navigation Company’s commercial vessel was impounded near Tobruk’s naval base in eastern Libya earlier on Tuesday.

According to Qassim, the ship’s crew, consisting of 32 Egyptian nationals, claimed that they had entered the Libyan territorial waters due to bad weather. He added that they have submitted a formal pledge not to violate the Libyan waters again.
