Palestinian official demands international action against Israeli violations

April 9, 2014 at 1:24 pm

Silence following Israel’s grave violations of international law is unacceptable and will allow Israel to escape accountability, as well as delay the realisation of fair and permanent peace and end the human suffering resulting from this tragic conflict that has gone on for too long, a senior Palestinian official to the UN said.

In a letter sent to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, Lithuania and the President of the General Assembly regarding the deteriorating situation in occupied Palestine, Ambassador Feda Abdelhady-Nasser, Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, highlighted the need for the international community to take serious actions against Israel’s grave violations of human rights and international human law. She went on to say such violations lead to the escalation of tensions and the deterioration of the fragile situation on the ground.

She also noted that on Thursday, the occupation forces killed 24-year-old Palestinian Motaz Washha in Birzeit, north of Ramallah, after surrounding his home. She stressed that the occupation forces’ methods of pursuing and violently attacking him indicate their pre-meditated intention of killing him and this is another indication of the lack of security and the abnormal life experienced by the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation.

She added that in addition to that, these actions outline the intention of Israel’s provocation, incitement against the Palestinian people and their leadership, land and holy places, Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, that is to destabilise the situation completely until US peace efforts are derailed.
