Qatar: Withdrawal of ambassadors nothing to do with GCC differences

April 9, 2014 at 3:18 pm

The council of ministers in the State of Qatar issued a statement today expressing its regret and surprise by the decision of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to withdraw their ambassadors from Doha.

The statement explained that there is no relationship between the step taken by the “brothers” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain and the interests, stability and security of the people of the Gulf region. On the contrary, it pointed out that their differences are about issues outside of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Qatar affirmed that it always was and will remain committed to the brotherly values that bind the people of the Gulf countries. As such, it will make every effort to preserve the fraternal ties between the Qataris and all the people of the region. Accordingly, Qatar has decided not to reciprocate by withdrawing its ambassadors from the three countries.

The Qatari statement said that it also remains committed to the principles upon which the GCC was founded and that it will fulfil all its obligations in accordance with what was agreed between them to preserve and protect all the states and their stability.
