Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party is expected to achieve similar results in the upcoming elections as it achieved in the previous elections, several Turkish studies has revealed.

The surveys were mostly carried out in the main Turkish cities such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. The Republican Popular Party is expected to get better results in its stronghold city of Izmir.

General elections are due at the end of next month. The polling centres said that no essential economic changes that affect the views of the public have taken place.

According to the polls, the two main crises which faced the current government, headed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, did not affect the Justice and Development Party’s popularity.

Last May, Erdoğan’s government faced the Taksim Gezi Park protests where severe power was used to deter protesters. There have also been corruption charges against a number of ministers.

One of the polls estimates the party will achieve around 49 per cent of the votes, while the Republican Popular party will get around 28 per cent, the National Movement 13 per cent and Peace and Democracy Party 6.5 per cent.

Another centre expected lower results of 47 per cent instead of the 49.9 per cent previously expected.
