Ajnad Masr group claims responsibility for Egypt's Nahda Square bombings

April 12, 2014 at 2:32 pm

The so-called “Ajnad Masr” group announced its responsibility for the three bombings that targeted police officers outside Cairo University Wednesday, killing one senior officer and injuring five others.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the group admitted they targeted a gathering of senior police officers during their patrol near Nahda Square. According to the statement, the group pursued the officers until they reached the place of the bombs, then detonated them. The single fatality in the bombing is allegedly one officer who was complicit in torturing and killing protesters in the Nahda massacre last August.

“The third bomb has been detonated at a later time to avoid harming civilians who gathered in the place,” the statement read.”
