Al-Sisi visits UAE to discuss future of political and security situation

April 12, 2014 at 10:26 am

Field Marshal Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the leader of the military coup and Egypt’s Defence Minister, arrived in the UAE yesterday to start an official visit of the country.

Al-Sisi was officially received by Abu-Dhabi Crown Prince and Supreme Leader of Armed Forces Brigadier Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. A number of senior military leaders accompanied Al-Sisi on his visit to the UAE.

The visit came two days after the announcement, by the Egyptian army, that it signed an agreement with the Emirati Arab Tech Company to build a million housing units for poor Egyptian youths within five years.

According the Egyptian newspaper Youm7, an Egyptian military source said that Al-Sisi has travelled to the UAE to follow up the joint military drills between the two countries called “Zayed 1”.

The sources said Al-Sisi is going to meet his counterpart in the UAE, as well as the president of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. They would, the newspaper reported, discuss the economic and military cooperation and the future of the security and political situation in the Arab region.

Al-Sisi is to attend the part of military drills where live ammunition is used as he is expected to comment on the performance of both the Emirati and Egyptian forces.

The UAE hugely supported Egypt after the military coup against former president Mohamed Morsi.
