Cyprus investigates Israelis involved in buying stolen Libyan oil

April 12, 2014 at 11:27 am

Two Israelis and one Senegalese national are being questioned by police who claim they negotiated the illegal purchase of oil smuggled from a Libyan port by rebels; Cyprus News Agency reported yesterday.

The Larnaca court refused to issue arrest warrants against the three suspects as there is insufficient evidence to prove the suspects had violated the island’s laws.

Local newspapers said the three men arrived to Larnaca on Friday on board a private plane then rented a boat from the port and joined the oil tanker to negotiate with the crew.

Cypriot police monitored the suspects then intercepted their boat when it returned to Cypriot waters.

The three men are said to have boarded a plane on Sunday evening heading to Tel Aviv.
